This is for professional estimate services to most antique automata which require repair or are in need of restoration. The fee is for an initial and thorough examination and to provide a more accurate estimate for any necessary repairs to the expected complex clockwork mechanisms, bellows, musical components, and other mechanical areas. This service is not to be confused with a repair or restoration fee for the much simpler tinplate windup toys, as those particular models have another special place on our website, and they do not generally require extensive examinations prior to commencing the work.
Repair parts costs and repair service time can vary greatly in this somewhat mythical field of advanced toy work, ranging from four or five months, to well over a year for extensive restorations.
Our initial examination cost (sometimes called a bench fee) is generally part of the repair or restoration bill. The fee does not cover return shipping since nearly all of antique automatons are of substantial value.
Please note: Every restoration or repair job is unique, the cost of this service was a carefully selected amount based off of most preliminary estimates in this general (but by no means common) range of automata... Namely, the French Vichy automatons, the Lambert automatons, and the mechanical work from Roullet and Decamps.
